The Lean Startup: Validating Tech Ideas Without Code

The Lean Methodology

Eric Ries popularized the 'Lean Startup' methodology: Build, Measure, Learn. But what if you could 'Measure and Learn' before you even 'Build'? Writing code is the most expensive way to validate an idea.

The 'Fake Door' Test

Do not build the app. Instead, build a single landing page explaining the app as if it already exists. Add a massive 'Buy Now' or 'Start Free Trial' button.

  • When the user clicks the button, show them a pop-up: 'We are currently in private Beta. Leave your email for early access.'
  • Run $100 of Facebook or Google Ads to this landing page.
  • If 100 people visit and 0 leave their email, your idea is bad. If 30 leave their email, you have validated the demand.

The Concierge MVP

Provide the service completely manually as a highly personalized concierge service. If you want to build an automated meal-planning app, start by personally messaging 10 people on WhatsApp, asking about their dietary restrictions, and sending them a PDF meal plan every week.

Why This Matters

Investors don't fund ideas anymore; they fund traction. Approaching an investor saying 'I have a great idea for an app' will get you rejected. Approaching them saying 'I have 500 people on a waitlist who clicked a Buy button, but I need funds to build the app' will get you a meeting.
